The Mid South Delta Leaders program (MSDL ) is building a network of diverse leaders who will work across economic, social and racial divides to help create a ‘culture of possibilities’ in the tri-state Delta Region in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
MSDL is funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation/Mid South Delta Initiative through a partnership between Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, serving as the lead partner; Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas; and, Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana.
Forty plus individuals, from Arkansas, from Louisiana, and from Mississippi, are participating in the Class III curriculum designed to improve their leadership, management and communication skills.
MSDL enables leaders to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Delta’s socioeconomic and cultural realities and offers techniques to bring about change in their communities. MSDL also helps participants gain a better understanding of national and global trends in terms of how these trends influence the quality of life and economic and community development in the Tri-state Delta. Three, 18-month classes include three-day learning retreats, study travel tours to each of the three state capitals, a Delta Bus Tour, dialog groups and Out & About in the Delta mini-tours.All classes participate in a curriculum designed to improve the leadership, management and communication skills of its participants. Class members of MSDL represent a wide variety of sectors, including higher education, K-12 education, government, non-profit, for-profit businesses, self-employment, faith-based and community volunteers.
The MSDL curriculum has long-term effects that extend beyond the 18-month structured program. MSDL takes action by uniting men and women of diverse backgrounds who have the desire to work collectively for the benefit of the entire tri-state Delta.
